SCHOLARSHIP ELEGIBILITY

& SELECTION PROCESS

SCHOLARSHIP ELEGIBILITY

  • The applicant needs to be accepted for enrollment at an educational institution accredited in the health care field and enrolled in a health care related major (i.e. nursing, pre-med, medical school, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and psychology).

  • All Traditional Student applicants must be a resident for at least two (2) full years and all Non-Traditional Students* must be a resident for at least four (4) full years in the following municipalities and plan on staying in the area post-graduation:

    1. Greensburg

    2. South Greensburg

    3. Southwest Greensburg

    4. Delmont

    5. Herminie

    6. Latrobe

    7. Mt. Pleasant

    8. North Huntingdon

    9. Scottdale

    10. West Newton

    11. Youngwood

The following municipalities have been added for the 2024 application year moving forward:

  1. ​Level Green

  2. Trafford

  3. Penn/Penn Township

  4. Boquet

  5. Claridge

  6. Harrison City

  7. Jeannette

  8. Derry Township/Borough

  9. Borough of New Alexandria

  • Traditional students must receive a diploma from one of the following High Schools:

    1. Greensburg-Salem

    2. Greensburg Central Catholic High School

    3. Hempfield Area Senior High School

    4. Greater Latrobe Senior High School

    5. Mt. Pleasant Senior High School

    6. Norwin Senior High School

    7. Yough Senior High School

    8. Penn Trafford Senior High School (added 2024)

    9. Jeannette Junior/Senior High School (added 2024)

    10. Derry Area Senior High School (added 2024)

  • The applicant shall not be eligible for the scholarship if their is a 100% tuition reimbursement by an employer. 

  • If a recipient does not renew a scholarship or no longer meets the criteria for eligibility and therefore gives up the scholarship, the scholarship money is returned to the CNS Health and Education Foundation's investment accounts. 

  • These eligibility criteria shall be waived only when the Board of Directors deem a special circumstance(s) and act accordingly. 

*Non-Traditional students are those who have been in the area for 4 or more years, intend on staying in the area and:

- Did not enter post-secondary school immediately after high school

- Are currently studying at a college/university

- Are wishing to continue their education (i.e. graduate/med school)

 

SELECTION PROCESS

Applications are reviewed based on academic excellence, financial need, leadership skills and activities, and extra-curricular activities and community involvement. 

Applicants are then selected to meet with the Scholarship Committee for a formal interview.

The financial data is reviewed in detail.  Although the scholarship selection process is based on several factors, financial need is the deciding factor with applicants that are equal in all aspects of academics and extra-curricular activities. If the family income is not declared the application will be disqualified.
